Our goal is to the fascinate young people of all ages to aquariums.
In doing so the Aquarium Club of Edmonton has added an element into the classroom that not only fascinates everyone but aids in the teaching of everything from life cycles, eco systems and water in the environment. It has been embraced by many teachers as word spreads about this wonderful program and has given ACE a way to give back to all our communities.
Aquariums for Schools
The Aquariums for Schools Program, managed by the Aquarium Club of Edmonton (ACE), has been operational for 11 years. This wonderful program is one way in which ACE gives back to Edmonton and its surrounding communities. Approximately 125 aquariums have been placed in a variety of local schools which has allowed the opportunity for thousands of young people of all ages to enjoy the fascination an aquarium and its inhabitants has to offer.
Placement of these aquariums within the classroom not only adds an element of tranquility but it also provides a excellent “hands on” medium to learn about life cycles, eco systems and promotes a general concern for the environment. It has been embraced by many teachers as a unique way to learn and introduce students to the aquarium hobby.
All of this could not have been done without the help of our local retailers & wholesalers, including Hagen, Big Al’s Aquarium Services, Mr.Pets, Oasis Fish & Reptile, Paradise Pet Centre, & PJ’s Pets. We would like to thank all the organizations (past and present) and ACE Members who have assisted in making this program so successful. If you know of a teacher or school you think may be interested in the Aquariums for Schools Program, please feel free to contact us.

How it works
The idea is simplistic, yet provides an engaging and interactive experience for both students and the teacher. If embraced, it can be a powerful complement to the existing curriculum; creating awareness to the significance and fragility of wetland eco-systems and the need for responsible stewardship towards the environment. These values can never be instilled too early in an individual’s life.
